Dorothy Faye (Harding) Osburn, daughter of Lester and Edith (Williams) Harding, was born November 12, 1928, in her grandparents' farmhouse in Woodson County. She attended a one-room schoolhouse, Askren School District #2, where she graduated 8th grade before attending Yates Center High School. Dorothy graduated from Yates Center in 1946.

Dorothy went to work after graduation at Plumb's Department Store in Yates Center. Eighteen months into that job, a clerk typist position became available at the County Welfare Office. While working at the Welfare Office, Gerald "Jerry" Dean Osburn returned from a tour in Japan. Dorothy and Jerry were engaged and she left her job in December 1949 to get married. Dorothy began her career as a military spouse soon after, living in Washington, Alaska, Kentucky, Colorado, Louisiana, and finally settling in Junction City. She stayed at home with her sons, Kelly Dean Osburn and Lynn Gerald Osburn, until taking a civil service position on Fort Riley. She worked up to office manager for the department overseeing the transporting of tanks, guns and other equipment when the troops were deployed or traveling for training exercises.

Outside work Dorothy had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, counted cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, reading, traveling on the Rec Center outings and devoted numerous hours to being a family genealogist. Dorothy followed the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas State Wildcats, and Kansas City Royals. One of her greatest interests was her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking with Courtney, attending Cameron's school events and many birthday parties.

In 2012, after the death of her husband, Jerry, and son, Kelly, she moved to Burlington to be closer to family events and her great-grandchildren. Dorothy was a member of the Burlington community until her passing on May 5, 2026.

She is survived by son, Lynn, and wife JoAnn Osburn of Gridley; grandson Cameron and wife Jo Osburn of Olathe; granddaughter Courtney and husband Kevin Metzen of Madison, and her great-grandchildren Landon and Emmett Metzen, and Evelyn and Benjamin Osburn; her sister-in-law and husband, Janiece and George Hiestand of Iola, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Edith, her husband, Jerry, her son, Kelly, her sister and brother-in-law, Alberta and Robert Edwards and brothers-in-law Robert and Gary Osburn.

Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, at Jones Funeral Home, Burlington. A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be at Askren Cemetery.
