Doris M Peterson-Hanson of Yates Center, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Yates Center Health and Rehab. She was 99.

She was born September 15, 1923 at Scandia, Kansas, the daughter of John and Eva (Woods) Sothers.

She married Paul E Peterson on October 26, 1941 in Santa Anna, California. They moved to Yates Center in 1958. Paul died March 17, 1968.

In 1999 she married Lawrence Hanson of Bryon, Texas. Lawrence died in 2015.

She was also proceeded in death by her parents John and Eva (Woods) Sothers, two brothers and their wives, Wilber and Velda Sothers of Courtland, Kansas, Victor and Elizabeth Sothers, Bahia Keno, Mexico, an infant sister Evelyn Sothers, Scandia, Kansas, sister Mae Stephenson, Sweeny Texas, two nephews James Stephenson, Freeport, Texas, Keven LaBeth, Sweeny, Texas, two granddaughters, Cassie Jumet, Olathe, Kansas, Brenda Hatch, Iola, Kansas.

Doris worked at the Yates Center News for 10 years as a reporter and book keeper. She also had a column, People in Our Community, for many years. She was also a part time dispatcher of Yates Center Police Department. Doris served as clerk of the District Court for 17 years and retired in 1990.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Golden Rod Chapter #163, Order of Eastern Star for 50 plus years. She served as Worthy matron two times. She was also a member of the Yates Center Senior Center.

Doris is survived by her five children, John Peterson and wife Phyllis of Topeka, Kansas, Beth Hines and husband Carl of Yates Center, Kathy Schuster and husband Chris of Yates Center, Tom Peterson of Ozawkie, and Mike Peterson and wife Jane of Shawnee . Ten Grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and five great - great grandchildren.
