Conrad D. “Connie” Parmely, passed away October 3, 2026, at The Meadows in Burlington, KS at the age of 94. He was born December 24, 1931, in Emporia, to Clarence and Mabel (Thornton) Parmely. He grew up just outside of LeRoy on Burr Oak Farm right beside the Neosho River. He graduated from LeRoy High School in 1949 and was a lifetime resident of LeRoy.
After graduation, Connie continued farming and ranching with his dad. He was proud to work beside his father with the Garst & Thomas Seed Co. They were among the first in Kansas to establish sales for hybrid seed corn. Connie continued on as a district sales manager for Pioneer Seed. Almost all of the family pictures from “back in the day” contained corn, irrigation equipment, mud and more corn. At the age of 40, Connie turned his life over to Christ and it became his calling to share the word of God with everyone he talked with.
Connie met his future wife in 1958 when she moved to LeRoy for a teaching position at the high school. He and Valeta Niehaus were married June 28, 1959. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2025. Also preceding him were his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Jean Parmely and almost all of his lifelong friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol (Gary) Nauman of Stoughton, WI and Verla (Steve) Bartholomew of Burlington; four grandchildren, Karl, Clara (fiancé Davis Jones) and Garcia (Gina Moran) Nauman and Jordan Bartholomew.
There will be an informal (farming attire welcome!) come and go get together for family and friends of both Valeta and Connie at the Elliott 1887 Venue in downtown LeRoy on Friday, October 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. A light lunch will be provided. There will be a simple graveside service for both Connie and Valeta at 1:00 p.m. at LeRoy Cemetery shelter house. Connie and Valeta were strong supporters to several charities and organizations. We ask that instead of flowers or a designated memorial, please honor them by making a donation to a charity of your choice.
