Effie Christine Hawkinson, 89, of rural Savonburg, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Waverly Kansas.

Christine was born January 26, 1930, on the family farm near Stark, Kansas.

She attended Mount Zion country schools and High School, Stark, Kansas graduating in 1947, and also attended Chanute Junior College and Pittsburg State Teachers College.

She taught at Fairview country school, Stark, 1949 – 1951.

She married Frank P. Hawkinson on November 25, 1951 at the Stark Friends parsonage and lived on a farm near Savonburg.  She remained on the farm until moving to Sunset Manor in March 2018.

She was a member of the Stark Friends Church. She spent her life caring for the church and community, being the hands of Jesus.

Christine is survived by her 3 sons, David, Charles, Gary, and daughter Sheryl, and their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, a brother, James Haddan and a sister-in-law Shirley Haddan, both of Stark.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer William and Zulah Z. (Bennett) Haddan, her husband Frank, two brothers Bennett and Bill Haddan, 5 sisters Nellie Woodworth, Mary Smith, Iva Mae Gordon, Anna Lucille Haddan, and twin sister Pauline Rush.

Private burial with family will be at the Odense Cemetery.

Jones Funeral Home in Burlington is in charge of the burial.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday March 30, 2019, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Home, 1883 US Highway 54 east of Iola, Kansas.

Family and friends are invited to stay after the service for a time of reflection.
