Bobbie Lee Mitchell, 86, of New Strawn, KS, was born August 12, 1938, and went to be with the Lord on February 20, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born in Garnett, KS, he graduated from Westphalia High School with the Class of 1956.

Bob married Virginia Lee "Ginny" Francis on August 28, 1960. They lived in rural Westphalia where he farmed and operated a dairy. Two sons, Edwin Lee and Donald Rex were born to this union.

In 1974 Bob built the roller skating rink, Stardust, in New Strawn, which with the help of his wife and sons provided many hours of entertainment and made countless memories for area youth and new friends. In 1976 Bob moved his family to New Strawn where he started a construction business and built several homes in the New Strawn area, including their own home. Bob loved working with wood and built numerous pieces of furniture for family and friends. Bob also was employed in the maintenance departments at the Coffey County Hospital and later at Beto Junction before retiring in 2002.

Bob loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing from a young age. He made several trips with friends to elk hunt in Colorado, which he looked forward to every year.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sons, Edwin Lee Mitchell in 1990 and Donald Rex Mitchell in 1995; his parents, Edwin and Pearl Mitchell; his sisters, Edna Boots (brother-in-law Paul Boots), and Ruby Starr (brother-in-law Clarke Starr); his mother-in-law, Una Carpenter; and brothers-in-law Ed Mader and Merlin Carpenter.

He leaves to mourn his passing his devoted wife of 64 ½ years, Ginny Mitchell; brothers-in-law, Ira Francis, Emporia, and Charles Carpenter, Westphalia; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Carpenter Ballard (Tom), Madison, KS, and Donna Mader, Iola, KS; a host of nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews; and neighbors who say what a wonderful and helpful neighbor Bob was who would go out of his way to help in anyway and was so loved by them.

No services are planned. A private service will be held at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established with New Strawn Christian Community Church - Elevator Fund, which may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
