Beverly (Norfleet) Brown, Waverly, died at Sunset Manor Nursing Home.

Beverly was born May 27, 1932, in Pittsford, New York, to Frederick and Alma Dancer Norfleet.

Beverly graduated with a BA from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio in 1954. At Oberlin, she also met her future husband, Thurman T. Brown, Jr.

She married Thurman Theodore Brown, Jr. on August 27, 1954, in Pittsford, New York. Thurman died on June 4, 1981.

Beverly always prided herself in settling in various parts of the country where her husband's comptroller work took them--living in Pittsfield, NY, Syracuse, NY, Oklahoma City, OK, Pampa, TX, and lastly Wyomissing, PA before she moved to Kansas City after Thurman died.

Beverly LOVED Kansas City! She often enticed her East Coast family and friends to visit the sights and sounds of Kansas-- from the Plaza fountains, Nelson Art Gallery, Steamboat Arcadia, etc. Another fun fact about Beverly is that she was a docent for many years for the Alexander Majors house (Majors was an early KC entrepreneur who started the Pony Express and other businesses.)

Beverly was an active member of the Colonial Church of Prairie Village. She was a member of the Colonial Choir. She also served as Colonial's wedding planner and organizer of the annual Crosslines charity event. She was also a member of Colonial Women and the quilting club.

Beverly moved to the Coffey County area in 2013.

One of Beverly's greatest joys was watching her grandchildren compete in their sporting events...from football to basketball to track, then on to swimming, she loved to be cheering them on in the stands! Wendy's sons both played on Burlington's football, basketball, and track teams, and Corey went on to play on Ottawa University's Basketball team. Ted's children all were competitive swimmers in both high school and college! Teddy and Summer swam for Notre Dame and Vanderbilt respectively, and Glen is currently on the UK Swim Team!

Beverly was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Virginia Holmes, and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hill Kindell.

She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Rick) Smith, Burlington, her son, Theodore Thurman (Kim) Brown, Kokomo, IN, two sisters, Dorothy Meusburger, Pittsford, NY, and Eleanor Levine, Monroe Township, NJ, her five grandchildren, Zachary T. Smith, Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Corey M. Smith, Emporia, Dr. Theodore (Alyssa) Brown, Jr., Portage, MI, Summer Brown, Nashville, TN, and Glen Brown, Lexington, KY, two great grandchildren, Theodore and Eleanor Brown, Portage, MI, and numerous other relatives and friends.

There will be a visitation at Jones Funeral Home, Burlington, Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, 5:30 P.M. until 6:30 P.M.
Inurnment will precede the memorial service at Memorial Garden, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS. A memorial service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, October 4, 2019 at the Colonial Church, 7039 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS. A fellowship reception will follow the service.
