Betty Lou (Henderson) Atkinson, 96, of Waverly, Kansas, passed away early Friday, September 10, 2021 at Sunset Manor in Waverly.

Betty Lou was born March 22, 1925 near Severy, Kansas, the daughter of Ralph and Fae (Clover) Henderson. She was raised on a farm between Severy and Fall River, Kansas and attended school at Fall River.

After schooling she received her teaching certificate and taught school in the Fall River area.

In 1947 she was united in marriage to Ira P. Atkinson of Fall River. They shared over 61 years of marriage together. Two children were born to this union, Iris and Rocky. They lived in Fall River until moving to Burlington in July of 1964.

During her 57 years in Burlington, Betty Lou worked as a jewelry store clerk, then as a long time secretary for the Burlington United Methodist Church. She also helped with church turkey & ham dinners, funeral dinners, and made noodles and coleslaw for the Fireman's Carnival. She was a member of the ladies quilting group for many years, a Girl Scout leader, and led many Girl Scout day camps. She was a 74-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Betty Lou was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and her husband.

Betty Lou is survived by her two children, Iris Crothers, of Anchorage, AK, and Rocky Atkinson and his wife Jerri, of Hot Springs, AR; 2 grandchildren, Brenda and Matthew Crothers; 6 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; 3 nephews and 7 nieces; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at the United Methodist Church in Burlington.

The casket will remain closed but those who wish to come in and sign the register book may do so on Monday September 20.
