Bennie Wayne "Ben" Gaut, 81, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, KS surrounded by close family and friends.

Ben was born June 17, 1943, in Coffeyville, KS, the son of Ben and Metta (Kerns) Gaut.

On June 1, 1968, he and Judith Thoes were married in Topeka, KS. They became the parents of a son, Andrew.

Ben earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Emporia State University, a Master of Science degree from the University of Kansas, and a PhD from Kansas State University.

Ben was the General Director of Special Education for Topeka Public Schools until his retirement in 2003.

Ben and Judi were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David.

He leaves behind Judi, his wife of more than 56 years, and son Andrew (Danielle) as well as two grandchildren, Ashley and Allison.

Memorial services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. Inurnment will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Burlington. The family will meet with friends at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
