Ardath Louise "Betty" Ryan, 99, longtime resident of the Burlington, Kansas area, passed away Monday morning, April 17, 2023, at the Anderson County Residential Living Center at Garnett, Kansas.

Betty was born September 29, 1923, southwest of Burlington in the Cola Hill District the youngest of six daughters of Ross Edwin and Mary Alta (Morrow) White. She grew up in  the Viva community and after graduating from Cola Hill Rural School she met and married Henry Hugh Ryan on August 15, 1943. They lived on a farm west of Burlington in the Fairfield District, and Betty helped Henry in the fields as needed and later worked at the M&L grocery store and the Burlington Peter Pan Store. Betty and Henry moved into Burlington in 1980. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Burlington. The Ryans didn't travel far from home, but Betty remembers vacations to Pikes Peak and Springfield, MO. She always enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Henry, preceded her in death on October 27, 1998.

She is survived by her children, Norma Hess (Ralph), Burlington, KS, Donna Kempker (John), Leavenworth, KS, and Kevin Ryan (Yvonne), Garnett, KS; 5 grandchildren, Chris Hess (Kimberly), Traci Harsch (Mike), Mindy Hoover (Alex), Crystal White (Jason), and Lyndsay McElderry (Sean); 10 great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held 1:30 P.M. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Graceland Cemetery at Burlington.
