Alvin Eugene Kaufman, 89, of Burlington, Kansas, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at Wesley Hospital in Wichita.

Alvin was born March 7, 1932, at the family farm home near Gridley, KS, the son of George and Cora (Schwab) Kaufman. He grew up on the farm and attended Washington Rural School Dist. #23 and graduated from Gridley High School in 1950.

He and Anita Pauline Cummings were married on June 12, 1960. To this union was born three children, Merlin Lynn, Genell Renee, and Arlin Leon.

Alvin served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He saw much of the country while in the service.

Alvin had worked at Beach Aircraft in Wichita. He farmed from 1960 till 1985 then helped his son farm from 1993 to present. He drove the school bus for 30 years for USD 244; had handy man jobs in summers while not driving the bus (painting, etc.); and cut and sold wood for 30 years. Alvin enjoyed gardening, working on the farm with the livestock and farming. He especially enjoyed time spent with his family.

Alvin was a member of the Christian Church, Burlington where he was an Elder, and helped at the nursing homes for 28 years. He was a leader at the services and taught Sunday School classes when needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Arlin; three brothers Dale, Kenneth, and Charles; and two step-great-grandchildren, Chase and Paxton Luby.

He leaves Anita, his wife of more than 61 years; his children, Merlin Kaufman (Sally), Burlington and Genell Stites (John), Grand Junction, CO; his grandchildren, Macey Barnhart and her two girls, Andi and Patsy, Burlington, Amanda Moore (Dawson), Fruita, CO, and their three children Peter, Luke, and Jobe, Ian Stites, Grand Junction, CO, Ben Stites, Grand Junction, CO; step-grandchildren, Samantha Kvas (Josh), Gardner, KS, and their four children Taylor, Jaxson, Lillian, and Madison, Tyson Langley (Brandie) Wichita, and his children, Preston, Malory, Jaydence, and Holly Rose; a brother, Raymond Kaufman (Karen), Burlington; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at the Burlington Christian Church. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery at Burlington.

The family will meet with friends from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
