Alice Skocpol, 94, lifelong resident of Burlington, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, February 9, 2013, at the Life Care Center in Burlington.
She was born June 16, 1918, the daughter of Walter and Pearl (Henley) Franklin.
She graduated from Burlington High School in 1936.
On August 31, 1940, she and Leo J. Skocpol were married at Ottawa. They made their home in Burlington where Alice operated the Skocpol Insurance Agency for many years. She also served as secretary for the Burlington Cemetery Board for a number of years.
She was a member of the Burlington Christian Church and Martha Chapter #73, Order of the Eastern Star which merged with LeRoy Chapter #83.
Her husband, Leo, preceded her in death on June 11, 1997.
Alice remained in their home until moving to The Meadows retirement center in Burlington.
She was also preceded by her brother, Edwin Franklin, and her brother-in-law, George Gleue.
She leaves her sister, Edna Gleue of Burlington who is making her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to be near her daughter; her sister-in-law, Lorraine Franklin, Central Point, Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 12, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery at Burlington.
